Film Indonesia semakin menunjukan taringnya. Setelah di negeri sendiri menunjukkan progresi yang cukup signifikan, maka film Indonesia mulai ‘bermain’ di pasar luar negeri, walau saat ini baru di pasar Malaysia. tapi, setidaknya dengan kesuksesan beberapa film Indonesia disana, menunjukkan jika industri film kita harus terus meningkatkan mutu dan kualitasnya, jika ingin lebih diterima oleh diversifikasi pasar yang lebih internasional.
Minggu lalu Ungu Violet yang dirilis di Malaysia mendapat sambutan yang meriah, mengalahkan film lokal yang berjudul Gol dan Gincu. Berikut adalah kutipan dari Malay Mail berikut ini:
POOR START
Here’s further bad news for the local film industry. Bernard Chauly’s first feature film, Gol & Gincu,
produced by Red Films, made a slow start at the box office despite rave
reviews. The teen romance, starring Nor Fazura, Ashraf Sinclair and
Sazzy Falak, collected only RM250,000 in its first four days. That�s
not promising when compared to Sembilu 2005 and GK3 The Movie, which grossed RM600,000 in their first four days and ended up grossing less than RM2 million.
Gangster and Senario XX returned RM850,000 in their first four days and collected more than RM2 million in the end. So, Gol & Gincu has much of catching up to do if it hopes to reach the RM1 million mark. And that�s made much tougher as Gila Gila Pengantin Popular, starring Erra Fazira, Norman Hakim, Saiful Apek and Afdlin Shauki, is opening next week.

Good news for fans of Indonesian heartthrob Nicolas Saputra. His new film, Janji Joni
opens nationwide on September 4th. The film will be distributed here by
Wayang Tinggi Sdn Bhd, the same company that brought in last year�s Eiffel…I�m In Love. With Nicolas in the lead, Janji Joni is expected to match the success of Tentang Dia and Unggu Violet.
For
that, Indonesian filmmakers will rejoice at the expense of local film
producers. It�s a fact that when an Indonesain teen flick opens here,
the turnout for local films is badly affected. One only has to look at
what Unggu Violet did to Gol & Gincu last week.
